Just to add my 2pence worth, I'd recommend taking a half day if you can and going when the shops are quiet. The girls at WKD and also at Fairy Goth Mother are all totally lovely and helpful, and if you can go when you can get their undivided attention you'll get loads of help, advice and opinions about cut/style that'll suit you the best.

Oh yeah, and once you've got one, start saving, because you'll want another...
Let us know how the corset buying adventure turns out!

From what I've heard, quality is great for the price (although obviously won't match up for sturdier corsets) but customer service took a nosedive after project runway. So if you don't mind waiting for ages, it's worth it.

Go for it, her stuff's awesome! I can't find the post now where people were complaining about timeframes, but I think you're talking 4-5 months. Which isn't insane, but it is a long time if you're not aware of it.

My very first corset was a Vollers. Im still wearing it now and it's almost ten years old! I have had many corsets through the years, worn them for a while and then sold them on, but that one I've never let go, even though its a tad on the large side these days.

I dont think the manufacturer of the corset really matters, but being able to try it on, and to get someone who knows what they're talking about to fit you in it, is invaluable.

All I would say is that I have seen girls laced into corsets with massive gaps at the back, and then talked into believing it's the right size when really it's far too small. If you have a decent sized modesty panel at the back, and want to train your waist down gradually, fair enough - your body does get used to it. But otherwise, for comfort's sake as much as anything else, stick with 2-4", expect not to be able to close it at first, and make sure you still like it when you sit down - I know so many people who have bought stunning corsets, then found they either CANT sit down in them, or that when they do, there's some wee  bulge somewhere that they dont like and then refuse to wear it because it make's them look 'fat'  Wink

UPDATE!!!

I've got a corset!  Grin

I went to London earlier this week and bought a corset from What Katie Did! I still can't believe it! It is the Tempest, the new one WKD have just bought out. Its lovely!!!

I would also like to add that you ladies you really know your stuff, your advice and reccommendations were spot on; the staff at WKD, were really really helpful, knowledgeable, professional (insert loads of positive attributes/adjectives), all round lovely!

So a big thank you to you, and WKD!  Smiley Smiley Smiley

Has anyone ever had a Louise Black one?

I prob sound like I've bought everything going but I have one of her Skeleton corsets which I bought off Etsy. It did take a while but the communication was good so I knew where I stood with the order.

It's not really a corset though, just gives a bit of definition so great for dancing and a post-wedding blow out! You'll also have to field a lot of enquiries about where you got it from. Smiley

Thanks for the info hon! I know it's not boned but the wedding dress will be heavily boned so Ill probably need a non-boned one as you say, that and a shorter skirt and my dms  Grin

Just need to work out when to order it as still shrinking so probably wont order till Nov as weight should have levelled out by then, plenty of time as wedding not til Oct 2011

It's the skeleton one on black I want. I've wanted one for ages so figure this is a good reason to get one!

I'm at 4 stone 6lbs off. A lot of my clothes are now too big to wear but some I pin as dont want to buy too much til I level out. I just bought 2 dresses and a skirt in a 16 which are a tad tight but within a month they'll fit. I was wearing 20-24 depending on the shop so very pleased.

Got these

Downsides is handfuls of hair falls out everyday. I try to remind myself this will only happen for 3ish months (at 3-6 months post op) but its so scary! To combat this I've had my hair cut into a long Gwen Stefani style bob but still lots comes out and freaks me out. I knew it was a side effect of the surgery and it will grow back plus luckily I have lots of thick hair!
I dont know when the shrinking will stop so the future is unknown which can freak me out on occasion but exciting at the same time.

How's yours Gem?

Hi Ladies just been trawling through here as I am a new addition..I have bought from Axfords, Vollers and a local dressmaker, and all weren't that great for me.  My recent purchase is a Dita Corset from www.boobytrappcorsets.com.  I ordered over the phone though after speaking to the actual lady that was making it for me where she asked me many questions and I even sent images of me in other corsets so she could see what was right and wrong with past purchases.
My corset was ready in 2 weeks and I adore the tiny waist I get when wearing it.  I hate taking it off!
